ALRTA Executive Director Update
Welcome to another weekly ED update. I’m writing to you today from sunny Toowoomba in preparation for the LRTAQ ALRTA Conference. We have approximately 200 delegates attending each day and the Bull Carters Ball is a sold out event at 300 people. A big thank you to Tammie, Colleen and Elanor for their mammoth efforts in organising this event.
Last week was a busy one with meetings regarding the NLIS uplift, planning for Turcking Australia 24. Make sure you register, ALRTA will contribute to a session on technology discussing the EBS Braking Project, Braking Habits, under HVSI funding scheme and I will be facilitating a panel on level crossings. It is a compelling agenda and worth attending.
On Wednesday I travelled to Melbourne to participate in the ATA Industry Technology Committee meeting. This was a well attended meeting, both in person and virtually, with topics of discussion including HVNL reform (including 4.6m height trailers and trailer lengths and combinations) plus discussion on the need for an industry led approach on level crossings. Thank you to the ATA for organising, it was great to attend in person and have a tour of the Hendrickson facilities.
I had the privilege of participating in a podcast recording for NTI, Spotlight, alongside Michael Edmonds NTI and Warren Clark NatRoad on some of the challenges and opportunities for the transport industry. Watch this space for when this goes live.
Lots of planning was underway last week for this week’s National Council, being held here face to face in Toowoomba.
I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone over the next couple of days! If you haven’t already done so, please reach out and say hi. I look forward to reporting back in next week’s newsletter, the key outcomes of the discussions and how ALRTA can continue to support members in their operations and businesses.

Learn about the new eNVD features: Intergrity Systems Company (ISC) has released 13 new features into the eNVD web-based system and mobile app. The new features, available from Friday 1 March, have made the system more more accessible for the livestock transport sector.

Animal Welfare for Saleyards Course
Registrations are open for the Animal Welfare in Saleyards Course scheduled at Corowa Saleyards on Wednesday 24 April 2024.
Designed for personnel employed or working in saleyard facilities, the course is underpinned by the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines and is delivered through a mix of online self paced learning and a face-to-face training day delivered by Aus-Meat.
Upon successful completion of this course all participants are expected to be able to successfully apply knowledge of good animal welfare practices into practical situations. Successful completion will result in the following unit of competency being awarded – AMPLSK201 – Apply animal welfare and handling requirements.
