MEDIA RELEASE: ALRTA ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association of Australia (ALRTA) has announced the appointment of Rachel Smith to the national Executive Director position.

The appointment was made by ALRTA National Council following an extensive talent search and selection process.

ALRTA National President Scott McDonald said that Ms Smith is the right person to carry on the ambitious work program of the association.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Rachel Smith as the next ALRTA Executive Director,” said President McDonald.

“Ms Smith has previous transport association experience having worked for the Australian Logistics Council as Head of Government and Policy and having served a period as interim CEO.  She has also worked for Australian Pathology and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, bringing extensive experience in policy development, advocacy, government relations, member services, projects, business development and management.

“ALRTA has a long history of punching above its weight across an ambitious work program. I believe that Rachel has the right mix of skills and experience to continue that tradition. I congratulate her on the appointment and look forward to working closely into the future,” he said.

Ms Smith said she is looking forward to the challenge of representing the interests of the livestock and rural transport sector, including the six state member associations comprising the federation.

“I am thrilled to return to the transport and logistics sector to advocate for outcomes that will advance the interests of ALRTA members to government and the wider Australian community and look forward to working with the membership”.

Ms Smith will commence in the role following the ALRTA-LRTAWA Joint National and State Conference 4-5 August 2023.

The Australian/New Zealand Standard 4968 (Heavy road vehicles – Mechanical coupling between articulated vehicle combinations) comprises the following three individual parts, each of which has been received minor updates and improvements for 2023:

• 4968.1:2023 – Part 1: Design criteria and selection requirements for fifth-wheel, kingpin, and associated equipment
• 4968.2:2023 – Part 2: Testing and installation of fifth-wheel and associated equipment
• 4968.3:2023 – Part 3: Kingpins and associated equipment

The updates include various improvements to aid clarity and reduce ambiguity, particularly in relation to the D-value formula and calculation of design forces. All changes are listed in the ‘preface’ section of the individual documents.
