The Rural Transport Rising Star Award

In 2022, ALRTA in collaboration with National Partner bp and Media Partner PowerTorque, announced the launch of the Rural Transport Rising Star Award, an initiative to celebrate, encourage and reward young people building the rural transport industry of the future.

Luke Cannon was announced the 2024 award winner at the LRTAQ/ALRTA Combined National Conference.

The inaugural award was presented to the 2023 winner Amy Throckmorton at the LRTAWA/ALRTA Combined National Conference,

ALRTA President Scott McDonald, 2023 Award Finalist Damian Swalling, 2023 Award Winner Amy Throckmorton, bp Regional Sales Manager Kathy Young, and PowerTorque editor Tim Giles.

Travel to each National Conference for two award finalists including flights, transfers and accommodation was courtesy of bp up to $2,500, with a prize of $5,000 towards professional development awarded to the winner.

ALRTA Honorary Life Membership

ALRTA Honorary Life Membership is awarded to long-term rural transport industry contributors who have distinguished themselves among their peers.

McIver Award

The McIver Award recognises those who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in making an outstanding contribution to our industry in recent times.

The McIver Award was established in 2015, when celebrating ALRTA operating for 30 years.

    • Owen Driscoll established NTI’s Roadteam network and founded the National Truck Accident Research Centre in 2002.

    • John Beer’s personal passion to make our industry safer led to the launch of the National Ramp Guidelines.
  • 2024 Ian and Fiona Wild
    • Fiona and Ian have been actively involved in our state and national associations, enthusiastically promoting improvements in driver safety and animal welfare, having owned and operated their livestock transport business for at least 40 years.
