COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
There are several COVID-19 outbreaks across four states including in regional areas. New border restrictions and testing procedures have been introduced and refinements are being made continually.
The NHVR is maintaining a web page with links to up to date information in all States and Territories. This includes rules, border pass applications and testing locations. We urge you to check the site regularly for any changes to the rapidly evolving situation.
Keep up to date with requirements
ALRTA and our State Member Associations are liaising closely with authorities to ensure community safety while minimising impacts on freight movements. If you experience any problems please contact us and be ready to supply as much detail as you can.
LRTAQ 2021 CONFERENCE REPORT
Assistant Minister Buchholz.
Last week, ALRTA Executive Director, Mat Munro, travelled to Roma in south west Queensland for the LRTAQ Conference. The timing of the event was a stroke of luck after having once previously being postponed due to COVID and the re-introduction of border restrictions again this week. Thankfully the event was able to go ahead to mark the 40th anniversary of the Queensland association.
The Bull Carters Ball.
The conference was very well attended with delegates hearing from prominent speakers including the Federal Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport, the Hon Scott Buchholz MP, QLD Senator Susan McDonald, QLD Shadow Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Steve Minnikin and Mayor Sean Dillon. It wasn’t all work though with some serious competition at the clay pigeon shoot, a few great trips down memory lane and the legendary Bull Carter’s Ball.
Finalists for the Young Person in Transport Award.
ALRTA congratulates Damien Swalling on winning the 2021 Young Person in Transport Award and also the recipients of Honorary Life Memberships including Ian and Fiona Wild, Mick Curley, Evol Opperman and George Johnston.
Shadow Minister Minnikin, Laney O’Neil, Senator McDonald and Mat Munro.

DELIVERING NEW IDEAS AND REAL SKILLS
Change. It can make us excited, and it can make us nervous. Some people embrace change, while others value the experience and learnings of the past. There will always be change and challenges in the Australian trucking industry, and it’s how we prepare ourselves and our businesses that can be the difference between whether we succeed or fall behind.
Despite current restrictions and recent lockdowns, the ATA and PACCAR are excited to once again be able to deliver valuable, educational content to industry no matter where they are located around the country with TMC Online 2021.

Bringing together trucking fleet, workshop, and maintenance professionals, as well as mechanics, engineers, and business operators, TMC Online is a free and interactive event that will deliver the latest technology and maintenance updates, insights, and stories from trucking experts across Australia.
Developed with input from the ATA’s Industry Technical Council and the wider trucking industry, TMC Online will take a deep dive into topics:
- electric trucks
- government support for workshop apprentices
- why wider vehicles are safer and more productive
- business savings from full expensing, and
- the potential changes to vehicle inspections, defects, and duties.
A key feature of TMC Online is the Technical Q&A – an energising and hard-hitting discussion forum where you ask the questions.
There is no other event that delivers high-quality, first-hand knowledge like this. This is your opportunity to prepare for change, learn from others and share your own experiences.
