ALRTA Executive Director Update

Welcome to another weekly update!

It’s been another busy week engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders and advocating for ALRTA member priorities.

ALRTA participated in promising meetings with some potential new partners in the banking, finance and leasing space.

I participated in ATA Member Association forum made up of CEOs of ATA member organisations.  It was great to discuss collective issues facing the transport sector and identify areas for collaboration.

On Tuesday, ALRTA hosted a member forum with a presentation from Richard Calver on ‘Closing the Loopholes’ Bill which has now passed both Houses of Parliament and achieved Royal Assent.  If you missed this webinar, can be found here.

Sam Bourke, Executive Chef MLA

Wednesday, I attended the Parliamentary Friends of Australian Red Meat at Parliament House.  There was a broad spectrum of attendees from across the red meat supply chain in Australia and hosted in the Speaker Courtyard by the. Hon. Milton Dick.  I had conversations with Senator Bridget McKenzie, the Hon. David Littleproud, the Hon. Gavin Pearce and the Hon. Scott Buchholz plus stakeholders from Cattle Australia, Australian Live Export Council and Australian Meat Advisory Council. Sam Burke, MLA Executive Chef was fired up on the barbie and is looking forward to being in QLD for the LRTAQ ALRTA Conference in a few weeks’ time.

Speaking of the conference, if you haven’t ready done so, please register now.  Registrations close 15 March 2024.

The redesign and relaunch of NLIS is continuing with ALRTA still involved in stakeholder meetings.  There will be targeted sessions in coming weeks and I will keep members informed of opportunities to participate.

On Friday ALRTA hosted the  Driver and Animal Welfare Committee meeting, it was a productive meeting with Graeme Hoare and I sharing our recent wins at the National Animal Welfare Roundtable hosted in Canberra by ALMA a few weeks ago.  We continue to work towards developing a biosecurity truck wash guide, if you have specific feedback on what should be considered please email Sue Davies,

Lastly, congratulations to our Rural Transport Rising Star Finalists, Luke Cannon and Padraig Carey, I look forward to meeting you both in Toowoomba in a few weeks’ time.
Until next week

Congratulations to the 2024 Rural Transport
Rising Star Award Finalists

Congratulations to Rural Transport Rising Star Award Finalists Padraig Carey, nominated by LBRCA members T & M Smyth and seconded by PB and RE Dawson; and Luke Cannon, nominated by LRTAQ member Fraser’s Livestock Transport.

Brought to you by National Partner bp and Media PartnerPowerTorque, in association with ALRTA, the Rural Transport Rising Star award is an initiative to celebrate and reward the young people building the rural transport industry of the future.

The 2024 award winner will be announced on Thursday 21 March 2024, at our Combined LRTAQ/ALRTA National Conference in Toowoomba QLD!

A big thank you to all nominees and members who nominated them. This award received numerous competitive entries, making the judging panel’s task of selecting finalists very challenging.

Life as an outback cattle transporter

Watch this video to follow six green-and-white Kenworth T659s across outback Australia. Their cargo… over 600-head of cattle.

Just another normal day at work for ALRTA member and family-owned cattle carrier Fraser’s Livestock Transport.
