NEW BORDER CONTROLS ANNOUNCED

Due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in Victoria new border control measures have been announced affecting freight movements from 12:01am, Wednesday, 8 July 2020.

New South Wales

  • Truck drivers must apply for an entry permit and carry it with them.
  • Entry permits will be valid for 14 days at a time.
  • Permit applications can be made at the Service NSW Website.
  • The Service NSW website states that: 
    • you may be allowed into NSW if you have supporting evidence but have not been able to get a permit, however this is not guaranteed.
  • Police and defence force personnel are guarding VIC/NSW borders (on the NSW side).
  • There are 55 crossing points – local governments are closing many.
  • Six sites have been identified as priority crossings which will remain open:
    • Wodonga Place, South Albury
    • Hume Hwy, South Albury
    • Cobb Hwy, Moama
    • Newell Hwy, Tocumwal
    • Sturt Hwy, Buronga
    • Princes Hwy, Tambillica
  • Delays are expected. Police are asking persons to avoid all travel if possible.

South Australia

  • Truck drivers must apply for an entry permit and carry it with them.
  • Applications can be made at the SAPol website.
  • You will be notified by email of your status within 72 hours and given a unique number.
  • You will need to produce this number when crossing the border.
  • Truck drivers must Quarantine for 14 days when NOT performing essential traveller work.
  • Truck drivers must use PPE and practice social distancing.

Australian Capital Territory

  • Persons from Victoria cannot enter unless they have an exemption.
  • The ACT Government website states that exemptions will be only be granted in exceptional circumstances, including undertaking essential services work. This is not defined further.
  • Exemption requests are to be submitted to COVID.Exemptions@act.gov.au, and need to have the following details:
    • An explanation of your need to travel to the ACT
    • Name
    • Date of birth
    • Home address
    • Phone number
    • Email
    • Travel details (flight number, by car etc)
    • Date of entry to ACT
    • Details of how long you intend to stay in the ACT **
    • Date last in Victoria
    • Name and address of where you plan to stay in the ACT.
